Pet Sitting for Dogs With Seizures in Portland
Experienced. Observant. Calm under pressure.
When your dog has a seizure history, you need more than someone who loves dogs. You need someone who understands what to watch for, can follow their established seizure plan, document an episode, monitor their recovery and recognize when something isn't right.
When your dog has a history of seizures, choosing a pet sitter can feel different. You’re not just looking for someone dependable — you need someone who understands what to watch for and can stay calm if an episode occurs.
I have hands-on experience caring for dogs with seizure histories and following their established care plans. From documenting an episode to keeping your dog safe and monitoring their recovery afterward, I pay attention to the details that matter.
What I Watch For
Every dog is different, which is why knowing your dog’s normal behavior and established seizure pattern matters.
During my care, I can monitor for changes in:
-
Behavior or awareness
-
Movement and coordination
-
Appetite and water intake
-
Energy and responsiveness
-
Seizure frequency and duration
-
Recovery after an episode
If a Seizure Happens
I stay calm, keep your dog as safe as possible, time and document the episode, follow the seizure instructions you’ve provided, and closely monitor their recovery.
If their established emergency criteria are met, I follow the veterinary and emergency instructions we have documented before care begins.
The Postictal Period Matters, Too
Care doesn’t necessarily end when the seizure stops.
Dogs can experience confusion, disorientation, pacing, temporary vision changes, increased hunger or thirst, fatigue, or other behavioral changes during the postictal period.
I understand the importance of continuing to observe your dog while they recover.
Why Consistency Matters
Pattern recognition is one of my strongest skills.
The more familiar I become with your dog, the easier it is to recognize what is normal for them — and notice when something changes.
That’s one reason Doggywalkie is intentionally built around one consistent caregiver. When you book with me, I’m the person caring for your dog.
Before You Leave
For dogs with a seizure history, I want clear instructions before care begins, including:
-
Typical seizure presentation and history
-
Known triggers, if any
-
Current medications and schedule
-
What recovery normally looks like
-
Your veterinarian and preferred emergency hospital
-
When you want veterinary care contacted or initiated
-
Any veterinarian-provided seizure or emergency protocol
My role is to follow your dog’s established care plan — not diagnose or replace veterinary care.
